Services

We provide multisensory, individualized tutoring services for children, teens, and adults who struggle to read, write, and spell for any number of reasons, including students who have dyslexia or other language-based differences, or students who have simply fallen behind in school and require additional support.

Reading

Our specialists design lessons and materials based on the strengths and weaknesses of the individual student. Components of the reading lesson include direct and explicit instruction in:

  • Phonological awareness
  • Phonics
  • Fluency
  • Vocabulary
  • Sight Words
  • Comprehension

Writing

Advances in technology do not eliminate the necessity for explicit writing instruction.

When students learn to write by hand, they develop hand-eye coordination and critical fine motor skills which are essential for everyday tasks.

Students who practice handwriting also become better readers. Research suggests forming letters by hand while learning letter sounds may activate reading circuits in the brain.

Spelling

Students who are strong spellers recognize patterns in words more quickly and become faster, more fluent readers.

In addition, when students are proficient in spelling, they are not restricted to writing words they can spell or forced to consider spelling when trying to focus their attention on higher-level aspects of composition.

Even with the advent of spellcheckers, spelling instruction is still necessary. Spellcheckers do not identify and correct every error.
